What is ABA?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a science that uses evidence-based research to understand and improve behavior.  "Applied" refers to focusing on areas of social significance, that is, improving behaviors and skills that are important for everyday life. It seeks to discover the relationship between one’s environment and how that environment influences behavior.

ABA therapy focuses on improving many different areas of life including communication, social skills, play and leisure skills, activities of daily living skills, adaptive skills, academic, school readiness, motor skills, and eliminating problem behaviors.

"Thirty years of research demonstrated the efficacy of applied behavioral methods in reducing inappropriate behavior and in increasing communication, learning, and appropriate social behavior."

- United States Surgeon General David Satcher, MD, PhD
